Život (Life): Association for protection and welfare of animals in B&H

zivot

Association for Animal Protection and Welfare in Bosnia and Herzegovina “Life” (Udruženje za zaštitu i dobrobit životinja u BiH „ Život“).

“Life” was founded in February 2010 in Sarajevo by a group of animal lovers. The Association was established without any help from local or international organizations, with minimal support of the citizens of Sarajevo.

“Life” was created to combat brutal treatment of stray animals- especially dogs and cats- which are being tortured and killed each day in our country.

Although the Law on Animal Protection and Welfare had been adopted in 2009, it had never been fully enforced. As a result, dogs and other animals in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) are abused on the daily basis in the most heinous ways.

Since 2010, despite having no outside assistance, “Life’s” members and volunteers succesfully saved, treated and found homes for over 300 abandoned animals- providing for their neutering and spaying; ensuring they are socialized and properly cared for by the veterinerians; and finally finding safe and loving homes for these unfortunate souls.

The Association for protection and welfare of animals “Život BiH” is a non-government and non-profit organization that deals with the rescuing of abandoned dogs and cats, domestic and wild animals, their medical treatments and finding them places to live.

Currently the Association is focused on Sarajevo Canton due to the lack of financial assets. The goal of the Association is also to organize workshops in kindergartens, elementary and high schools with a goal of creating conscience with younger generation about the problem of abandoned / abused animals in B&H territory and the correct interaction when encountering abandoned animals on streets.

The Association is financed exclusively through donations. Gathered funds (money contributions, food for animals, blankets, leashes and similar) are directed to current cases handled by the Association. Each donation is carefully noted to accomplish full transparency.

Incomes of the Association are: membership fees, voluntary donations and gifts from private and legal entities, both foreign and domestic, in form of cash, services or property of any kind.
