Sarajevo: Dogs killing continues

Since they made them operational, Sarajevo Cantonal phone numbers for reporting potentially aggressive dogs, have not stopped ringing. In just the few days since they became operational, 220 calls have been recorded.

After receiving a call, inspectors go to the field and forward orders to either Praca shelter or hygienic service of Sarajevo New City municipality. On the other side, due to many illegal activities involving every institution dealing in this problem, new informal group of citizens has been formed in order to follow and report all illegal activities of mentioned services and institutions to the police and justice organisations.

According to citizens’ testimonies, LOKOM employees on the field are not escorted by inspectors as previously announced by media. Largest percentage of dogs caught are not aggressive ones, but puppies who pose no danger to anyone.

According to data we have at the moment many caught dogs vanish into the thin air. Citizens are trying to get information what is happening to the dogs caught, mostly by illegal hygienic service LOKOM. Citizens state that they don’t want to live in a city where dogs are killed every day.
